Channel 4’s Grand Designs series 3: Oak framed cottage, Herefordshire.
The final episode of series 3 featured this oak framed house built by Ben and Merry
Albright. The kitchen and utility were designed and built by
deVOL. Consisting entirely of freestanding furniture, the style and meticulous build quality
of the kitchen typifies this perfectly executed project.

Quorn, who suggested a few radical changes...

Design secrets: The trick to making long, narrow kitchens look
more spacious is to not have runs of units along both walls.
Cut-off areas are great for storage such as the fridge freezer
or a larder cupboard. Keep the activity area in full view of where guests
gather so that cooking is not a chore, it’s the main attraction.

to blend with a much-loved pine table and an old school cupboard...

Channel 4’s series Britain’s
Best Home 2003 featured Paul and Josephine O’Leary’s
home, Secret Cottage in Leicestershire. If points awarded per
pound spent were accounted for then it would have easily
beaten the overall eventual winner the Head Gardener’s house.
Sarah Beeny was certainly quite smitten with Secret Cottage.
