Shaker Kitchen Specifications...

deVOL’s shaker range has been a culmination of 25 years of experience making kitchen furniture. Where as our classic range closely follows the use of traditional materials and craftsmanship, our ‘Shaker range’ is a fresh look at furniture manufacture and embraces modern production techniques together with traditional carpentry to ensure the best quality at a low price.

Our Shaker furniture is modular in design and is available in a large number of standard sized cabinets. The design of these cabinets follows the traditional proportions of real Shaker furniture, but because certain sizes are so popular, we are able to achieve a greater efficiency of production and therefore produce cabinets for around half the price of making individual, bespoke cabinets. There are many imported “shaker style” units available, which only loosely fit the general perception of what a shaker kitchen is. Of course there is a huge difference in the quality of materials, construction, finish and fittings on offer.

Every kitchen has its awkward nooks and crannies, so it really is an advantage that everything is made at our workshops in Leicestershire. Our customers can have the best of both worlds, with a selection of standard sized cabinets with the odd bespoke cabinet to fit any space.

Fitting service...

We offer a fitting service throughout the UK; however our furniture has been designed to be straight forward to install so we are happy to supply the cabinets alone if you would prefer to use a local kitchen installer.

Materials and craftmanship...

deVOL’s Shaker Range is made alongside our classic furniture by our team of highly qualified cabinet makers in our workshops in Loughborough. The construction of our shaker doors utilises mortise and tenon joints as in our classic range. However, the fascias are jointed with an innovative dovetail joint, which, as well as being efficient to manufacture, is extremely strong ensuring the strength and longevity of the cabinets.

Shaker drawers feature hardwood drawer boxes in conjunction with plant on drawer fronts. The drawers sit on ‘Grass Dynapro’ 50kg self close drawer runners, which we have found to be the smoothest, most durable runners on the market. It is our policy, that when choosing fittings and accessories for our furniture, only to use the best available. Saving money on cheap fittings is a false economy that can become the greatest bug-bear of cut price kitchens.

When choosing the materials for our shaker cabinets we wanted to ensure that the cabinets would be extremely long lasting, strong and durable. For this reason, we do not use mdf or other particle boards in their construction. Our Shaker doors and fascias are all made from hardwood in an authentic Shaker style.

Our Shaker cabinets feature elegant shelf supports, influenced by late Georgian bookcases, to allow the shelves to be adjusted so that you can make the best use of the available space. We also offer a variety of interior accessories such as baskets, cutlery inserts and spice racks.

Quality finish...

All our Shaker cabinets are painted inside and out using the same high quality water based acrylic paints as our classic range. Following two sprayed coats of paint, all of our fascias and doors are then meticulously hand-painted to leave fine, carefully applied brush strokes. This not only gives an attractive finish but ensures that the paint work can be easily touched up in years to come. We feel that this is an important attribute in a kitchen that will last for decades. We offer five standard colours which have been carefully chosen to complement each other, giving you the freedom to mix two or more colours to create focal points in your room. For a small extra charge we can also colour match any colour of your choice.

Worktops...

Our shaker kitchens can be supplied with the same high quality granite, marble and handmade hardwood worktops that we offer with our classic kitchens. However, we also offer more readily available hardwood staved worktops, which with occasional oiling will provide a durable wooden work-surface at a much lower cost. Many of our clients choose to use both stone and timber worktops in their kitchens, which further accentuates the free-standing style that has made deVOL kitchens so sought after.

When you buy a Shaker kitchen you really do get what you pay for; we don't have to inflate our prices to pay for expensive high street showrooms. You are very welcome to visit our premises in Loughborough and view our kitchen displays and you can also see the furniture being made first hand. If you are worried that we are not local to you and cannot offer an all-round service, please don't be. We supply and install kitchens all over the country and can organise a site visit to verify your dimensions, give design advice, template for granite worktops and install your kitchen.
