“People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us” – Iris Murdoch 1919-1989

I came across a beautiful Instagram page which totally inspired me to write this blog, the page belongs to a company called ‘BOTANY‘ and I love what they do, what they’re about, they’re photography, philosophy, style, products, everything. Botany have a little shop in Hackney, London, where they sell a carefully curated selection of ethically sourced hand-crafted homewares, organic skincare products, stationery and paper goods. But what caught my eye the most, and what I really love, is their beautiful abundance of Indoor plants. Botany stocks an unusual selection of succulents, cacti and other houseplants as well as a weekly selection of cut wild flowers. Their shop looks absolutely gorgeous and so beautifully simple and real.

Houseplants were definitely a thing of the past, a bit dated and old fashioned and not all that cool, but over the past year houseplants have made a comeback and a beautiful one at that. I’ve seen so many cool and quirky indoor plants all over Pinterest, in magazines, journals and blogs too, they add a little bit of life and colour and a natural feel to any room or space. Helen has been busy potting up some cute little plants and cacti at Cotes Mill, you can check them out on her Spring time blog post here.

Most houseplants, especially succulents and cacti, require very little maintenance, they’re super resilient and they’re really pretty too. If you’re not that into gardening, or if you live in the city and you don’t have much outside space, then indoor plants are the perfect way to bring a little bit of the outdoors into your home, and they look really cool too!!

Houseplants are known to have lots of health benefits, they filter and clear the air in your home and it’s been said that ‘a little bit of greenery will make for a happier person’… do we need any more of a reason to introduce a few little indoor plants into our homes!?

BOTANY stocks everything you will need to get started with houseplants and very soon all of their products will be available to purchase on their website, so even if you aren’t able to visit their pretty little shop in London, you won’t be missing out. Botany have also just teamed up with the beautiful lifestyle brand TOAST for a pop-up in their Notting Hill store, it’s running until 2nd May and looks well worth a visit.
