Over the past few weeks, Laura, one of our great graphic designers has been taking some really nice photos of all the stuff we sell here at Cotes Mill, it’s actually a full time job we have so much amazing stuff and she is working her way through it!! We have added it all to our website under the section ‘Antiques’ and I have been filling in the descriptions, I got a little carried away and thoroughly enjoyed giving my take on what we sell and why you should have it in your home. Do have a look there are so many lovely things.

In the very beginning, we always wanted to sell more than just kitchens, we imagined long before deVOL moved into Cotes Mill how wonderful it would be to have room after room of things to buy for your home. Paul and I both have a background in antiques and so we are the ones who go out and source all the things we sell, it’s such fun – apart from the disagreements about which chandeliers are cool and which are not. This eternal debate goes on and I am always the source of great hilarity for my dogged determination to only purchase what I think is an appropriate chandelier for the discerning home. Who knows what’s hot and what’s not, but hey ho we have fun and it seems we choose well because we not only sell lots but we manage to furnish and decorate all our showrooms and kitchen displays with our purchases and treasures.

Everything you see in all our many showrooms we have sourced ourselves and used to make these kitchens look so special. The most important thing to me when designing a kitchen showroom or display is to make sure it feels authentic, by that I mean it’s believable and really suits the room it’s in. It’s just a gut feeling that comes instantly or with a little time spent in the room, it’s always a gamble though and when it works I get such a happy feeling seeing the reactions, also a bit of a phew moment. I felt so thrilled for us all when I saw our St. John’s Square showroom in Vogue’s secret address book, along with comments in all the loveliest magazines about how to achieve the look and how we are setting new trends in interiors according to The English Home.

As usual I’ve gone off on a tangent, this blog was supposed to be about the antiques and vintage things we sell and now I’ve got carried away with styling showrooms, but really it’s all linked and perhaps the best way to show you how amazing all the things we sell are. With a little inspiration and a bit of a hunch you can come here and fill your home with quirky unusual and fabulous things and now you can view them all online just to check what’s new in. I think it may be impossible to add images of everything so it’s best to visit us as well. The website images are to inspire and give you a taste of what’s on offer, but we do really want you to come and visit us and see for yourself, because things are always different when you actually see them (for the better I hope).

I am in the process of furnishing the new Mill House Kitchen here at Cotes Mill with a ‘Classic English Kitchen’, a new ‘Sebastian Cox’ showroom in St. John’s Square (in a new ready to launch colour) and also my own home, so interiors are upper most in my mind. I go to sleep imagining each of these rooms and how I am going to turn them into Instagram worthy, beautiful and stylish rooms, that don’t look contrived or laboured over but comfortable and wow in our own unique way. It’s the best bit of my job, gathering antiques with Paul and then seeing them transformed in a display. We get questions from all over the world about our kitchens and seeing thousands of people like our images makes us more and more excited about each new project and eager to keep on creating beautiful spaces.

Do have a good look through our Antiques page (CLICK HERE TO SAVE TIME!) and drop us an email if you have any questions, but do remember we are not an online website selling vintage products, we are a showroom and we encourage you to come and visit us and see these things for yourself. It’s worth a trip and then you can be sure and if it’s small enough you can pop it in your car and take it home with you. We have lots of parking, we will make you tea and feed you homemade brownies and we will let you wander to your heart’s content. Bring a measure and dimensions then you know what will fit and what won’t.
