Feathers

Decorating with feathers is not a new idea, in fact it’s been around for a very, very a long time… but just recently I’ve seen some super lovely images on Pinterest of feathers being used in really cool ways, so I thought I’d share them with you.

I love feathers because they’re so delicate, they’re organic and they’re really pretty, they bring a natural feel into a room. Every single feather is unique, they’re full of beautiful colours, textures, intricate little patterns and speckles, I just think they’re really cool.

I love the idea of tying a few feathers along a thin piece of leather and hanging it from a plain white wall. You can frame your feathers, scatter them over a linen table cloth for a simple table decoration, or pop a handful into a little glass jar. There’s so many different ways to use feathers in a subtle and understated way, and although they’re so light and delicate, feathers are actually super durable so you can even colour wash your feathers with dye or paint them with watercolours.

I really like the thought of going out and collecting something which has been left behind from nature, and then turning it into something new and beautiful.

We have even incorporated feathers into the interiors of Cotes Mill with some really beautiful feather lampshades by ‘Vita’…. they’re amazing and you can purchase them from us too! Helen wrote a whole post about these cool feather shades here.

Feathers have also been making an appearance on the catwalks of London’s 2015 fashion Week, and Vogue have set feathers to be a top trend for Spring 2015, so they must be cool!
