A Private Bar in our LA Showroom
Cupboard Costs: £29,960
Total Cupboard Costs: £29,960
When did bars in houses stop being kitsch and become so cool? To be honest, who wouldn’t want a secret little place at home to whip up a spicy marg on a school night??
deVOL, usually known for its simplicity, can do glamour it seems, rather fabulously with a little help from Watts 1874, an English company that has been making the very finest wallcoverings for over 150 years.
The cupboards in our LA bar are from the deVOL Haberdasher's range - painted in ‘Bobbin Black’, they take on a whole new personality, less mid-century and more late-night chic. The Haberdasher's island, which has always incorporated a rather brilliant brass footrail, now has an equally brilliant brass worktop with deeply rolled edges and an integrated sink, making it not only beautiful but really practical too. This shiny brass countertop is new to us at deVOL, we’ve been making our much-loved aged copper worktops for many years now, but brass, that’s a whole new look.
The tall, glazed wall cupboards and tambour base cabinets incorporate not only masses of glassware storage, but a wine fridge, a drinks cooler and recycling bins, making this area totally set up for an impromptu party or a quick nightcap before bed. Inspired by the legendary Le Coucou bar in New York, we added our Emerald Green London Tiles, Vineyard Tables and renovated an old English railway bench (bought from eBay) to complete this intimate and atmospheric room. We filled the ceilings and floor with ferns and greenery and our Frilly Chartreuse Lights, a few deVOL candles and the mood was set. We finished it all off with a curated collection of vintage bar accoutrements that we have collected over many trips to flea markets and antique fairs back home in England.
We hosted our LA showroom opening party in this bar and the thrill of seeing it full of people chatting, drinking and nibbling was enough to make us all want a bar in our own home. It was a triumph of a party and with a playlist of our favourite English music, we’re not sure we remember the last person leaving!!!
