As a rule, we don’t do ‘fancy’ at deVOL, we prefer things to be a little more understated. But since designing our Victorian Washstand, we have been lured by some very ornate, Rococo-style mirrors to sit above the basins. There is something rather chic and bohemian about mixing glamorous pieces in simple, understated interiors. It’s a way of making a home feel very ‘country house casual’ and elegantly unrestrained.
Searching for one or a pair of perfectly sized mirrors to go above a washstand, for instance, can be really difficult, not to mention eye-wateringly expensive. There are also many very cheap imitations, so please don’t be fooled. We bought a beautiful, original Rococo-style mirror from the 18th century, and remade it here in our workshops with meticulous precision. We have gone to great lengths to achieve a really authentic finish, the cast material is tinted to resemble original red lead primer, we then painstakingly apply leaf by hand in the traditional way, and finally brush and polish by hand with antique wax. The mirror glass is slightly foxed to give an aged appearance, and the back of the mirror is just as it would have been, simple plywood.
It feels old, it looks old, and it is giving us the urge to fly off to Venice and reassure ourselves we got it spot on!

Our mirror features a hand-gilded and antiqued finish, giving each piece a unique character and appearance. For the glass, use a suitable glass cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth.
The frame can be cleaned gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid applying cleaning products directly to the frame, and do not use harsh cleaners, abrasive materials or scouring pads, as these may damage the gilded finish.

All deliveries are made via a reliable tracked service. For UK orders, each item will be dispatched as soon as it is ready and should arrive within 1-3 working days.
International orders will be dispatched only when all items are ready and they should arrive within 3-5 working days. If you wish to receive individual items as soon as they are ready, please consider placing them as separate orders.
Returns
This item is eligible for return within 28 days of delivery.
Any items returned to us in the condition in which they were sent will be refunded in full, excluding any delivery fees and a 10% restocking fee.
We are unable to cover any return postage costs, or any loss or breakages that occur during the return process. We therefore recommend that returns are made using the original packaging with a tracked, insured and signed for service.
All returns are made to our UK workshops.
