deVOL directory: The South Wing Kitchen

30th October 2017

By Zoe Parker

We’ve never shared our South Wing Kitchen on the deVOL Journal before, so I thought a perfect way to show you the beautiful photos that Tim & Helen took a couple of months ago, as well as answer lots of your questions about this project and all of the bits that make it so lovely, would be to write one of my little deVOL directories.

The handmade cupboards are from our Real Shaker Kitchen range, and here’s lots of info on the rest…

1. The Sink and Taps

The customers inherited this gorgeous old Belfast sink from the previous owners of the house, there’s no branding or name to be found on it, but for something really similar we’d recommend a classic Villeroy & Boch Farmhouse sink. For something a little larger, one of our new Double Shaker Sinks, which we have made in collaboration with British company Shaws of Darwen, would work just perfectly. The lovely mixer tap is from Aston Matthews and the finish makes a cool change from a deeper, aged brass.

2. The Paint Colours and Hardware

All of the cupboards are painted in deVOL’s own Trinity Blue colour, it looks soft, muted and elegant against the pale walls and worktops and I think it’s the most beautiful I have ever seen this shade look. This colour is proving to be a firm favourite with our customers, it looks fresh but not too fashionable, a really classic choice that will look good for years and years to come. The customers got the wall colour so spot on with ‘Pale Nutmeg’ from the Dulux ‘Heritage Collection’, a really lovely off-white shade and a total match made in heaven with Trinity Blue. Oh and not forgetting the hardware, this kitchen features our favourite Bella Brass cup handles, catches and knobs, you really can’t go wrong with these beauties.

– Our paint colours & Bella Brass hardware are only available as part of a deVOL Kitchen

3. The Lighting

Two bespoke pendant lights from Felix Lighting hang above the island. Subtle and understated, they don’t detract from the simplicity of the cupboards or the intricate detailing of the ceiling coving, but enhance it in quite a lovely way.

4. The Flooring

The original floorboards in this kitchen have been painted in ‘Cornforth White’ by Farrow & Ball, a very mid-toned neutral which is neither too warm nor too cool, it looks beautiful and has definitely made me fall back in love with the painted floorboard look.

5. The Worktops & Radiators

The customers sourced their worktops themselves and rather than opting for a natural stone, they opted for a really hard-wearing composite stone called Minerva ‘Carrara White’. The honed finish looks sleek and is much more resistant to scratches than a polished surface. With soft grey veining throughout it has the appearance of a natural marble, and although we always love the real thing, if you’re the kind of person that would prefer an easy-going worktop that doesn’t require too much looking after, then a composite stone is the perfect choice. I wouldn’t normally mention the radiators in a kitchen, but I thought these ones were really cool and incorporated into the kitchen design very thoughtfully and stylishly. These traditional style radiators are in a deep gunmetal colour and are from The Radiator Centre, I’ll link them below!

6. The Cooker & Splashback

This kitchen features a Rangemaster ‘Elise’ 100 cooker in the colour ‘Slate’, a cool deep grey that adds a great sense of balance to the room. The triangular brass splashback tiles are from Quirky Interiors, they’re handmade, they’re unique and they complement the Bella Brass hardware perfectly.
