“Experience Raw”

It’s not a shock to anyone here that I’m a teeny bit of a health freak… I’m always bringing questionable looking smoothies and juices into the office with me or going on about new healthy café’s and restaurants I’ve discovered.

I try to start every day with a wheat grass shot and an hour at the gym… this rarely happens because I get too distracted by the snooze button. I eat lots of raw super foods like dried berries, seeds, nuts, coconut oil, raw cocao etc. My favourite is almond butter which I can never get enough of, I will find any excuse to shove it into everything and anything I make… It’s probably UN-healthy the amount I use but it’s just tooo good! I love coming up with alternative recipe’s for all my favourite dishes and being able to eat them completely guilt free. It’s not about losing weight or dieting it’s about feeling good and healthy!

I have been following a number of super food bloggers for idea’s and inspo for a while now, one of my favourite’s being Tanya Maher www.BetterRaw.com. Her blog has everything you need to know about living healthy, from the best café’s to the yummiest recipes. She is all about eating raw plant based foods, which doesn’t mean your limited to fruit and veg, there’s a huge variety! Saying that I could never stick to it completely because I just love meat and fish too much. Tanya promotes eating raw because as soon as you start to heat foods it instantly devalues the nutrients and vitamins they contain and leaves your body needing to use lots more energy in order to digest it. There are also so many benefits, your skin gets clearer, your eyes get brighter, you have so much more energy, your immune and digestive system become stronger, the list is endless.

The first thing I wanted to do when I moved to London was to visit her café in Chelsea, I finally managed to drag Zoe along with me and it was definitely worth the wait. They offer a whole menu of raw goodness including breakfast, mains, snacks, smoothies/juices, and even cocktails. I really wanted to try the desserts so we went for a slightly different version of afternoon tea. I had a smoothie called “My Summer Forever” which was a blend of watermelon, strawberries, fresh mint and cold pressed apple juice. Zoe had an iced coffee but of course using all superfood ingredients, it was a mix of organic pour over coffee, palm sugar and a choice of almond, hazelnut or hemp milk. We also shared a mango and lime cake – my favourite combination ever!! It was almost like a cheesecake, the topping was creamy and delicious and the base was a mix of nuts, dried fruit and desiccated coconut. It was soo tasty and just as satisfying as eating a big piece of chocolate cake!

I was meaning to take a photo but we got a bit too excited and only remembered after it had all been completely destroyed. I had a look through their Instagram page to try pick one out to show you but they all looked so amazing I just had to put together a little montage…

Even if your not into being super healthy, I can guarantee you won’t leave disappointed in either the standard of food or service. It’s definitely a different experience to your typical café too! If you’re wanting to check it out you will find all the details on www.tanyascafe.com. Hopefully when I get a bit of spare time I’ll be able to start my own blog and share all the tasty recipe’s that I’ve come up with!
