Our new Shaker brochure is out and looking lovely, it includes some exciting new open base cupboards. These cupboards are a change from doors or drawers and will appeal to everyone  who has lots of lovely pots and pans and bowls and plates that they have to hide away but really want to see every time they go in the kitchen.

These new pieces work really well next to a Range cooker, a perfect spot to keep all you baking trays and saucepans.

Imagine having a set of vintage french copper pans all there ready to use looking lovely but not too showy. Imagine your huge salad bowls and Spanish terracotta pots that usually take up so much room  you have to hide them away, being there so you can use them everyday. If you watch Nigel Slater you will know exactly what I mean, he has rows of open base cabinets and they look so stylish. His kitchen is everyone’s ideal and now you can achieve the look so easily with our Shaker range.

We also make these open cupboards to go on the end of a run, these have slatted shelves a little like the bottom of our Islands. They give a very different feel to a kitchen, much more interesting than a tongue and groove end panel.

If you want an slightly industrial feel to your kitchen, if you have lots of lovely things that you use everyday, then these are the cupboards for you. I love them, I love the way they look, slightly rustic, very simple, very current. I love the possibilities they give you to display and store your kitcheney things. They also have a slightly mediteranean feel to them I think, you can imagine big stone open shelves in an Italian country kitchen full of big pasta dishes and cooking pots. Or in a very basic kitchen in a little Spanish stone finca, looking all wonky and wobbly but piled up with traditional old cookware.

I have been loving open shelves for a long time and have collected a few images to give you an idea of the look they create, cluttered but simple.
