This weekend my sister gave me a beautiful book called ‘etcetera’ by Sibella Court, who is well known as Australia’s queen of dishevelled chic. I have recently been coming across her styling in many images I see on pinterest, in magazines and on lots of blogs, so I was very happy to be given this book as a gift. It is one of a few she has written and is real pleasure to own, beautifully bound and full of delightful ideas for your home, styled and photographed to perfection.

Sibella has written other books including’Nomad’ and ‘Bowerbird’ both look equally lovely and I really want to add them to my collection.

She has a shop in Sydney called ‘The Society Inc’. I found a write up describing this shop as follows.

imagine that there was a beautiful shop that was more like a gallery, and every three months would take on an entirely new theme, no detail would be left untouched, a 10-color colour palette would be chosen, and everything inside would be curated to match, even the colour of the front door would change, well, it’s not a dream, and it does exist – in Australia. the society inc, a shop run by Sibella Court in Paddington (a suburb of Sydney), is a true vision, but also her home, where she lives above the shop. It is truly a labour of love, and a style that is beautiful, elegant and all her own.

Sibella has also teamed up with one of my very favourite shops, Anthropologie, creating a range of handmade hardware for the home inspired by her own collection of aged wood and tarnished metal hardware.

“The expertise of traditional tradesmen (forgers, tinkers, and smiths) has been lost over time, as handmade became machine-made and mass-produced,” she says. “I want to reference the time when the pieces you bought felt like someone had whittled them or sharpened them to imperfection with their own hands.”
