The art of keeping it simple

A deVOL Shaker kitchen bathed in sunshine. Delightful.

 

There is nothing more timeless than keeping it simple. This style may look effortless but sometimes holding back is the hardest thing to do. We always find inspiration in these images from the wonderful Ellei Home. The grandeur of the room combined with the sheer simplicity of our humble Shaker cupboards in neutral tones is quite special. It feels a little Parisian, despite being in the heart of Edinburgh.

This apartment is truly spectacular with sky-high ceilings and huge arched windows.

 

This is Ellei Home’s second deVOL kitchen (take a look at their first iconic project here). Just one run of Shaker kitchen cupboards and some open shelving, the perfect backdrop for their vintage wares and handcrafted home accessories. You can usually purchase all of these special things from their online shop, although they’re currently taking a break and will be back in Autumn 2025.

Open base cabinets are perfect for storing crockery. Displaying pretty things you use every day is a great way to organically style your kitchen.

Not just cupboards, it’s nice to see deVOL taps, cupboard catches and our iron shelf brackets too. We don’t have too many photos of these sturdy brackets so it’s lovely to see them looking so at home in this spectacular kitchen. They add a little contrast to an otherwise very soft, neutral colour scheme.

These iron shelf brackets are simple and sturdy, they have the wonderful ability to look old straight away.

 

With a simple backdrop, a small addition can create a whole new look. The table makes this room perfect for entertaining.
