The best candle ever

I’ve never really been into candles and especially not scented candles. I don’t know what it is, the scents always seem to be super overpowering and sickly and the kind to give you a headache, or they’re a bit nothingy and don’t actually smell that nice at all.

My mum has always been really into candles, which was a bit unlucky for me and my brother… mum would light a candle and within seconds we would run off upstairs into our bedrooms to escape the scent! But I think I may have found the perfect candle, which even I think smells soooo nice!!!

I came across ‘Laboratory Perfumes’ at Christmas time when I was looking for nice and unusual gifts. I immediately loved the packaging; it’s really natural looking, understated and stylish. I also love how the candles come in a little glass beaker, just like the ones we used to use in science lessons at school.

Laboratory perfumes are a British company and have three key scents for their candles, they sell perfumes in the same three scents too and I love how each one is unisex. The three scents are ‘Amber’, ‘Gorse’ and ‘Samphire’ and they have just introduced a special limited edition scent called ‘Tonka.’ After reading the descriptions for each I knew that ‘Samphire’ was the one I needed to smell, so I went and checked it out.

Laboratory Perfumes describe the making of the ‘Samphire’ scent….. “In Samphire’s case, it was a young leaf of verbena plucked from a friend’s garden on a spring afternoon. We crushed a sprig of that verbena with a pinch of juniper berries from the spice rack – and Samphire began to take shape. Moving from the kitchen to the lab, we blended in citrus oil, flourishes of lavender, basil and rosemary, and base notes of white amber and oak moss to create a bright, cool, aromatic scent with a lightness of touch that belies its complexity and longevity on the skin. The finished scent was so clearly evocative of the seashore we could only call it Samphire.”

… and wow it smells so good!! It smells really fresh, kind of manly, like a man’s cologne, almost androgynous, I don’t think I’m very good at describing scents but trust me it’s good.

This candle smells amazing when it’s lit, the scent fills the room in just the right way, you even get a lovely subtle scent when the candle isn’t lit. The best part about it is that my mum loves the candle too, yay! I even bought her a backup for Mother’s Day as she’s scared to burn her first one in case it runs out!

The candles are priced at £39 each, which is pretty expensive, but if you’re into your candles then definitely worth it.

You can buy this candle from the Laboratory Perfumes website here. I picked this candle up from Liberty’s in London, but they’re now stocked in lots of places like Anthropologie, The Conran Shop, Igigi…. there’s even a little shop on Exmouth Market, right near our London showroom, called The Content Store who stock Laboratory Perfumes products too!
