Sometimes you don’t know why something looks just right, you can’t put your finger on it, it just does. Good design, that’s what it is! In this case its the mix of our Classic English furniture, Jenny our designer and a couple with lots of innate design flair who wanted a beautifully made, beautifully functional,  beautiful family kitchen.

When we go on photo shoots we have a van full of lovely props, anything from a loaf of bread to a vintage bench and we use some or all of them. But this Clapham home didn’t need any of our props, it looks like this all the time, just simple, stylish, functional things, displayed in a lovely way, by a couple who have renovated their whole house so thoughtfully. Everything seemed calm and light and there was a lovely feeling when you walked through the front door, I think I gave a little sigh when we arrived, and thought, after 5 hours stuck in traffic this is the nicest place to be right know and its going to be a breeze of a photo shoot, even the dog was chilled out.

Its amazing how a space that is well designed can really have an affect on how you live and how you feel on a day to day to day basis. You can really change your mood and your positivity if you can make your own space give you this kind of feeling. We go on holiday to beautiful places and stay in beautiful spaces and we love the way they make us feel, but we often don’t think about our homes in the same way and we really should, because feeling great about the place you spend most of your time in should be top of your very important jobs list. I think here at deVOL we design our kitchens in this way,  we think about the space in between the cupboards, we think about the light, we think about how the room will be used and we try to get all our ideals and all our customers ideals into one layout. Sometimes you do have to sacrifice things you love or want in order to get a room you love, sounds like a contradiction I know and it can be a real toughy to give away or give up things you’ve set your heart on, but as with so many things in life, its what you leave out that’s as important as what you leave in. I don’t know, but I’m guessing the guys who own this house had loads more stuff they could have furnished their rooms with but they stopped themselves.

I know you will love these images but I also know you will all want to know some proper facts, so here goes………..

The cupboards are all painted in Pavilion Grey, the worktops are Carrara Marble, the cooker is a Mercury 1092mm in ‘Truffle’, I’m not sure where the lights are from but I will do my best to find out.
