Clerkenwell here we come…………….

27th October 2014

By Helen Parker

Well at long last we are finally able to tell you our very exciting news, deVOL is about to open a shop in Clerkenwell, London. It’s a perfect little shop in a very good spot, literally across the road  from ‘Exmouth Market’ and a few yards from The Saddlers Wells Theatre, the world’s No.1 venue dedicated to international dance – presenting dance in all forms from contemporary to flamenco, ballet to hip hop and more. Also within walking distance of Shoreditch and Hoxton.

We plan to open in the next few weeks and some of our experienced kitchen design staff are moving down too. We haven’t quite finished painting the outside of ‘Cotes Mill’ and we are already opening up a new showroom in London!!

Things tend to move quickly here at deVOL and this London showroom and design office is no exception to the rule. We got the keys this morning and we have already begun making the showroom furniture and ordered the flooring from Floors of Stone – of course!!

We are going to have a ‘Shaker Kitchen’ in the main showroom and downstairs in the basement we are going to have our design offices, photography, marketing and PR guys.  It’s a very exciting time for the staff who are moving, they are busy sorting out somewhere to live, which seems no easy job when you’re up here in Loughborough.

We are so excited that now all our London customers will be able to visit us easily without having to drive up to Leicestershire, we do of course hope people will still visit us at Cotes Mill as there really isn’t anywhere quite like it, but I think deVOL Kitchens, Clerkenwell, comes a pretty close second. Especially, as it is situated right opposite Exmouth Market, a place with a laid-back charm that means you might as well be in a different town altogether. Its story is a classic tale of urban gentrification: a run-down area whose old warehouses and factories were colonised by publishing, design and architecture firms in the 1990s.

Twenty years later, it is one of east London’s most desirable streets, situated in Clerkenwell, the grown-up brother of the younger, edgier districts of Shoreditch  and Dalston. It still has a trendy vibe, as demonstrated by the variety of stylish independent businesses lining the pedestrianised street, including some of the city’s most appealing restaurants and places to drink.

There’s even a Banksy a few yards from our shop on a shutter door in Exmouth Market, and for us country folk from the Midlands that’s worthy of a mention!

So if you fancy a day in London then visit us here at Tysoe Street, a little bit away from the mad frenetic parts of  London it’s a proper London Village and only a 20 min walk from Kings Cross and St Pancras, with no tube to catch. Eclectic shops and areas dedicated to dance and design, it’s got a real buzz and it’s refreshingly different from the London most people experience. If you live in London already then we really hope you will be happy that we are now close by and ready to offer our design service to you from these new premises. If you would like any more information on when we will be opening keep your eyes on the blog and we will let you know, but safe to say it will be before the beginning of December 2014.

We really look forward to seeing you at Cotes Mill or Clerkenwell.
