Gravity light

In my lunch break I try and make time to look at various design blogs, this intriguing idea came from a link on Itsnicethat.com to an article on The Guardian’s website. The light is powered by the energy stored in a weight that is held above the ground. The weight is slowly released and so produces enough energy to power the light. Once the weight hits the ground the user then needs to lift the weight up again. It’s a clever idea and is designed for the developing world. It is also nice to see the relationship between physical energy and light energy. In the develop world it is often easy to take energy for granted.
