Kitchen Curios

Nice to get in The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine this weekend. Especially as I was surprised to learn they sell 5 million copies. I thought those kind of circulation figures were a thing of the past, but I suppose The Mail on Sunday is a biggy.

I like the quirky little selection of things and the crinkly green backdrop which reminded me of a colour we saw in the Anthropologie catalogue and used ourselves for a photoshoot. Anthropologie have a rolling pin on the same article. I love their brochures, if you haven’t seen one, order one, they have style and it’s cool and effortless. I remember when I saw the first Toast catalogue I thought those models are just lovely and the photos and the feel were misty and ethereal. It was a very different experience to looking through a Lands end or Joules catalogue, not that I would ever. Anyway we all know Toast now and Jack Wills and the like, there good, but their not really really special.

This You magazine featured our bench and chopping board from our new range of accessories which were designed to complement our Shaker Kitchens. We have been selling them through Not on the high street and The French House, but to be honest we are so so busy making kitchens we decided to just sell them ourselves without the retailer margin. The little bird head chopping boards are so simple and I’m not surprised we’re getting lots of coverage. They’re perfect for magazine feature writers and make a really cute, really practical thing for your kitchen, nice little gift maybe.

The bench is pure unadulterated Shaker style; we texture the surface by drawing the planks backwards across a band-saw blade, neat trick for a hand sawn look. Everything else about it is exactly as per the original Shaker furniture makers handbooks. I like things to be made just right.

Anyway thanks to You magazine, every little bit of press helps us get our lovely stuff out there where people can find it.
