Our new loft kitchen here at the Mill

24th July 2014

By Helen Parker

We have created a contemporary Shaker kitchen on the top floor of Cotes Mill. The light is particularly beautiful in this space and the mix of sleek modern cabinetry against a backdrop of old painted brickwork walls, original windows and high beamed ceilings makes this the perfect place to contemplate.

There is a continental feel to this room, the high ceilings and the way the light falls make it feel almost Tuscan.  The simple Shaker cupboards keep all appliances hidden and the dark paint colour (our new and much loved ‘Lead’) creates a soft and mellow atmosphere.  The black granite worktops and chrome catches would be considered quite current, yet mixed with classic vintage pieces they are timeless and just right for the modern rustic look. The beautiful terracotta bowls are old Portuguese cooking vessels and are all for sale here at Mill.

With this room we wanted it to be more than just a Shaker kitchen, we wanted to create a place where customers could come and view our furniture, be able to sit comfortably in a calm and inviting spot and chat with one of our designers.

The low windows gave us the perfect opportunity to fit one of our window seats, linking the sink run to the glazed dresser making a really comfortable living space rather than just a kitchen.

The high shelves are the finishing touch and without them the room would not feel complete, they are not only practical but a key feature in the design of this kitchen.
