The Big Apple – Part I

16th March 2018

By Sophie Jackson

After having had the most memorable birthday arriving in The Big Apple (check out all the cool stuff we got up to here), we woke up bright and early the following day, ready to fill it with all that New York had to offer.

We had a quick ride up in the lift to check out the weather…and the rooftop view…

We planned to start our day walking the High Line – a public park built on a historic freight rail line, elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side – but not without picking up a healthy dose of caffeine on our way, which was nothing short of the best cup of coffee I’ve had in my life! If you ever go to New York and you’re in need of the ultimate cup of joe, you have to check out Blue Bottle Coffee!

The High Line is a really great way to see some of New York, especially when the weather is as gorgeous as it was for us! The winding walkway lined with plants and trees made it feel as though we were walking through the city’s very own secret garden. Every few steps you took you’d catch a glimpse of something from a different perspective – an iconic building, people below going about their day and the busyness of traffic that continuously hummed and honked throughout the streets.

We finished walking the High Line to be conveniently plopped in Chelsea, where there just so happened to be the historic 188-year-old indoor urban food market.

Just in time for lunch!

With just about everything you could hope for to choose from.

Naturally, I opted for a bowl of hummus (refraining from the pint!) topped with broccoli rabe, olives, simple salsa and a freshly bake pitta. In-credible.

We stumbled upon dessert which also fulfilled my love/obsession for anything hummus or tahini-related. Halva, which is basically tahini cake!

Well and truly tahini-fuelled, we left Chelsea Market for some afternoon adventures. Check back to see what we got up to in Part II!
