THE MOST LOVED DEVOL KITCHENS OF 2021

26th January 2022

By Lydia Winkfield

Is it just me, or did 2021 seem to fly by? In fact, it seems like only yesterday that I was recapping the most loved kitchens of 2020, but what with filming and releasing a TV show, starting our own paint collection, and designing countless new kitchens, the year seems to have disappeared in a flash! After being kept indoors for much of 2020 it was so exciting to get back on the road again and photograph some beautiful new deVOL kitchens, so, without further ado, here are the most loved kitchens of 2021 from the deVOL Instagram account…

10. PEARL’S BOHEMIAN BEACH HOUSE

This beautifully serene kitchen was liked over 13.7k times!

Pearl Lowe is no stranger to our annual top ten, but this year it’s her brand new beach house which has made it on the list. Nestled in the beautiful seaside town of Hastings, this kitchen is not a traditional coastal home of blues and greys, but instead, Pearl layered the walls and floors with warm shades of cream and linen and more than a sprinkling of vintage goodies. Even more exciting, this kitchen features a worktop we have never used before, Breccia Oniciata. This peachy pink marble is quarried in Brescia, Italy, and is said to be almost indestructible!

9. CAROLE POIROT’S KITCHEN

This distinctly French feeling Shaker kitchen pulled in 13.9k likes! Picture shot by Carole Poirot.

One thing that we love about our Shaker range is how versatile it is, because whilst these cupboards are made to quite a traditional English design, you would be forgiven for thinking that you’d just walked into a little French bistro when you entered Carole’s kitchen! Carole was actually born in Paris and raised in Germany, so her home in the North Yorkshire countryside is a fun mish-mash of all these cultures and includes a real cook’s kitchen. From the piles of cookery books to the quite enviable collection of copper pans, we’d very happily plop ourselves down in one of those wicker chairs and watch Carole cook up a feast.

8. A HABERDASHER’S HIDEAWAY IN SKÅNE, SWEDEN

A cosy Scandinavian retreat in Skåne, Sweden. Styled and photographed by the lovely @_foodstories_ / @_designtales_.

For the second year in a row, The Haberdasher’s Hideaway has made it into the top ten of our most loved kitchens, this year amassing over 14k likes. In a room that is so brimming with original features, it’s hard to believe that the deVOL cupboards haven’t also been sitting here for hundreds of years, but that’s what the owners, Laura and Nora, do so well, create spaces where you can’t tell what’s centuries old and what’s brand new.

7. A SCHOOLHOUSE IN NORTHERN GERMANY

14.1k likes for a simple picture taken with an iPhone by @_foodstories_ / @_designtales_.

It’s always an exciting moment when a customer decides to come back to deVOL for their next kitchen, and this year we were lucky enough to work on another project with Laura and Nora of Our Food Stories, this time in an old schoolhouse in Germany. Here at deVOL we really do believe that a well-made kitchen should last you a lifetime, and in Germany, it is actually quite common to take your kitchen with you when you move house. So whilst this is the third time we’ve collaborated with Laura and Nora, much of the kitchen you see here is actually made up of the cupboards we designed for their very first home, how cool is that!

6. THE CHARNWOOD FOREST KITCHEN

Ohh to cook up a meal from this pantry!

There’s nothing we love more than an organised pantry, and it seems like you all think the same! These pictures were loved so much they received 14.6k likes, and it’s not hard to tell why. Ooh and we can’t go without mentioning the gorgeous deep shade coating these cupboards, one of our new deVOL hues, ‘Bakehouse Green’. It’s a little nerve-wracking launching something new, but we were totally overwhelmed with the love for ‘Paint by deVOL‘, especially this moody colour here. We’ll always have a soft spot for green kitchens and it’s exciting to see so many people embracing this style.

5. LIZ CAAN’S KITCHEN

Just over 15,000 of you liked Liz Caan‘s opulent Classic English Kitchen! Beautiful photography by Eric Roth

We’re hopping over the pond for this kitchen, a quirky and colourful project in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Liz chose deVOL for her kitchen because she was keen to invest in craftsmanship and quality, but she also wanted to honour her grandfather, who himself was English. This little detail made the project feel extra special, it was so fun to design a room that reflected a bit of family history and heritage.

4. CASTLE TREMATON BY HOUSE OF HACKNEY

A kitchen fit for a castle!

One of the most exciting moments of 2021 was undoubtedly releasing our TV show, ‘For The Love Of Kitchens’, on the Magnolia Network. This kitchen kicked off the whole series and was designed for our long-time friends, Frieda and Javvy of House of Hackney. This was also the first time we debuted the ‘Dairy Table’ from our new Heirloom Collection, we were thrilled to see you all love this room just as much as we do, liking this picture 15.2k times!

3. THE COTES SHAKER UTILITY ROOM

An oldie but a goodie, this simple utility came in third place with 15,356 likes.

Believe it or not, this little utility run was built in 2014! We first designed these cupboards to show off our new colour ‘Pantry Blue’ in an unused nook of Cotes Mill, and little were we to know that 8 years later, this hue would become one of our most popular shades ever, and that this scullery display would go on to inspire hundreds of Shaker projects.

Take a step inside this dreamy utility room here.

2. A BROWNSTONE IN JERSEY CITY

Edging into second place is this fabulous Classic English Kitchen in New Jersey. Interior design by And Studios, photography by Nicole Franzen

We were so blown away by this kitchen that we decided to make it the first ever US project to feature on our website! It made quite an impact with our followers too, garnering 15,389 likes and 180 comments obsessing over the swathes of Arabescato marble, the delicate reeded glass cupboards, and the unique mossy green hue of the furniture.

See all the incredible pictures here.

AND FINALLY, THE MOST LOVED KITCHEN OF 2021 IS…

1. THE BELSIZE KITCHEN

A generous double fridge and freezer hidden away behind some ‘Trinity Blue’ doors earned the top spot, with an incredible 17.4k likes!

A brand new project in 2021, the Belsize Kitchen made quite the impression on our followers, amazingly surpassing last year’s winner by almost 2000 likes! This style of integrating appliances is quite common here at deVOL as it creates a really cohesive and authentic room, but we think it was a bit of a surprise for a few of our followers to swipe through the pictures and find a big Sub-Zero fridge freezer hiding behind some traditional wooden doors!

For a look around the whole room, click here.

And there you have it, the most-loved deVOL kitchens of 2021!
