Wow, 2017 just keeps getting better and better! I’m so excited to share the fantastic news that The Hampshire Barn Kitchen has been awarded Designer Kitchen & Bathroom’s ‘Kitchen Design of the Year’!!

This beautiful Sebastian Cox Kitchen is the perfect mix of natural materials and contemporary design. It was the first kitchen in this range made in this gorgeous ‘Lavender’ colour, a really lovely soft purple that nods to the idyllic countryside that surrounded this amazing Grade II listed barn.

Our London Showroom Manager, Paul, worked closely with our customers to design this very special family kitchen. The owners had created such an enchanting home full of character and charm and were looking for a kitchen that felt like a natural fit. They wanted furniture that was made in Britain using native timbers and so were very excited to discover our English beech cupboards that are all handmade by our wonderful team in Leicestershire.

The key was keeping the kitchen feeling light and airy. The 8 metre long run along the back wall was a really simple and practical choice that meant there was no need for wall cupboards and all of their appliances could be kept behind beautiful rough sawn doors… apart from the lovely big Redfyre oven which you’d never want to hide away! The central island had big deep drawers but felt very elegant stood on slender legs, as did the pretty glazed pantry. Both gave an ethereal quality to the room, nothing too chunky or heavy.

Working with the old beams provided the biggest design challenge, they were such a key feature and the kitchen needed to work seamlessly around them. This is one of the reasons the owners chose to have oak worktops, choosing a cohesive material was a really smart decision and wood can be more easily ascribed to the walls allowing the worktops to hug the frame of the old building.

I love this little seating area, it feels so snuggly covered in fur throws and big cushions and the seats actually lift up to provide even more storage, such a handy feature! The big pendant light and galvanised spotlights from Urban Cottage Industries added a cool industrial element that made the room feel a little more modern, fitting perfectly with the ‘Urban Rustic’ style that our Sebastian Cox Kitchen has become famous for.

I remember how excited Helen was when she came back from photographing this kitchen, to us it’s always been such a special project but it is so amazing for it to have been recognised by the experts in the design industry too. So a huge thank you to Designer Kitchen & Bathroom and the judging panel for choosing deVOL, we feel very honoured!
