The Crouch End Kitchen

Total Cupboard Costs: £36,900

Welcome to Crouch End, an artsy and leafy London village with a thriving café culture, amazing architecture and now the prettiest green kitchen... We were immediately taken with the colour and the light and how it all felt quite romantic and not really like any deVOL kitchen we'd seen before. The most overriding feeling though, is one of space, everything here had its place and the result was an almost unbelievably calm and uncluttered room. We hope you'll enjoy a look round.

Our Classic English cupboards were the perfect choice for this Victorian terrace, beautifully proportioned pieces of furniture made by us in England to your specific sizes and requirements, painted in whatever colour you like. This time, it's a bean green with just the right amount of zest to feel fun and really quite unique. We love a green kitchen here at deVOL and this fresh take on a classic colour is oh so good and confirmation it's here to stay.

The kitchen layout is pretty simple, a hard-working L-shaped run houses the sink, bin, the cooker, the American-style fridge/freezer and the pantry and an oak-topped central island with bags of storage, integrated dishwasher and breakfast bar makes it all feel social, the kind of place you just want to sit and stay. High ceilings allowed for us to build up but we were careful to keep the tall cabinetry to just one side, some closed and some with reeded glass, and avoid wall cupboards to ensure a sense of space and allow the very cool mottled plaster-effect paint and original coving to shine.

Aged copper topped the whole back run, went down into the sink and up onto the splashback, we all know how practical this material is by now but its warm glimmer and beautiful softness in tone just can't be beaten. It's becoming a bit of an iconic deVOL look, each sheet meticulously aged by hand in our metal studio.

This space used to be a second living room with a tiny galley kitchen tucked just off to the left. What a genius decision to mix things up. Moving the new kitchen into this room leading straight out to a pretty garden through those incredible original doors, and saving the old one as a handy utility for the messy jobs. Floors, windows and doors make rooms and this one has the kind dreams are made of, it just felt right for the kitchen to be here.

The final styling was simple, a little bit rustic and a little bit contemporary and the soft touches of pale pink paired with that green made for a winning combination. This room wasn't about the wow factor, it was about feeling comfortable, calming, spacious and interesting and it was about choosing cupboards that will be here for a lifetime, and another.
