A Galley Kitchen in Marylebone

Total Cupboard Costs: £17,740

Proof that having a small kitchen is actually very cool. That even with limited space, you can make a statement. We love little galley kitchens and to see one in a grand old townhouse in Marylebone was so interesting and so inspiring.

Our Shaker cupboards took up the challenge of creating a clean, neat and very bespoke-looking kitchen so impressively here. Every cupboard is actually a modular, standard-sized piece from our Shaker range, with just one small tweak made to the smart glazed wall cupboard to ensure the cornice (and the incredible original ceiling coving) had space to breathe. Sometimes people feel the need to cram loads of little cupboards or very bespoke pieces into a small room, but actually, bigger, perfectly proportioned pieces of furniture always help to give a sense of more space.

Behind the hand-painted doors was everything to ensure this kitchen functioned as beautifully as it looked: a dishwasher, pull-out bin, pantry, storage and a full-height fridge/freezer too. In a galley kitchen, we like to group taller cupboards together on one side to keep it all feeling open and airy and orderly. In this case, it also allowed for that huge sash window to be the focal point and to totally flood this little room with soft light.

Now, onto the delicious muddy greeny-brown paint colour because we think it was the making of this kitchen, especially paired with smooth honed black granite worktops and warm touches of brass and copper. So tasteful, it all just felt very high-end and very stylish.

There is often a sense that big is better, but sometimes there's nothing more alluring than a richly coloured little kitchen, and nothing more impressive than being clever with the space you have. If you've got a little galley and would like to make it extra special, give our wonderful designers a call.
